Police activity temporarily shuts down part of NYC's Lincoln Tunnel
NEW YORK -- Police temporarily shut down the Lincoln Tunnel South Tube to New York on Friday night, while pursuing a minivan they say failed to stop for a state trooper, CBS New York reports.
New Jersey State Police say a trooper tried to pull over a Mercury Villager heading north on the eastern spur of the Garden State Parkway in Newark shortly before 8 p.m. for an undisclosed violation. Police say the driver of the vehicle refused to stop.
Troopers followed the minivan onto the New Jersey Turnpike, but then backed off once it drove into the tunnel, where Port Authority police took over the pursuit.
Port Authority police arrested three people who were inside the van and say charges are pending.
The South Tube reopened around 9 p.m.
