4-year-old drives in reverse, crashes

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A New Jersey man has been charged after his 4-year-old son crashed a car into a building, reports CBS New York.

Police said Tavaris Reevey left the boy and his even younger sister alone inside the vehicle Monday morning in Ocean Township in central New Jersey. The boy apparently climbed into the driver's seat and put the car in reverse.

The car went backwards across a parking lot before hitting a brick apartment building's stairwell wall, police said. Neither child was hurt, CBS New York reported.

Reevey, 41, was arrested and charged with child endangerment. During his arrest, police said they found Reevey had an active contempt of court warrant from Asbury Park, N.J.

Reevey was released on his own recognizance on the child endangerment charge and posted bail on the Asbury Park warrant, police said.

The two children were turned over to their mother after the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency was notified.

Reevey is due back in court at a later date.
