Ex-Syracuse football player accused of stabbing two current ones
SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- A former Syracuse University football player has been arrested for allegedly stabbing two current players, police said.
CBS affiliate WTVH in Syracuse reports police charged 20-year-old Naesean Howard, of Syracuse, with two counts of assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. Police say they don't know what led to the stabbing, but they believe Howard knew the victims.
While officials haven't confirmed the identity of victims, numerous members of the Syracuse community took to social media to wish safety Chauncey Scissum as well as defensive back Corey Winfield a speedy recovery. Winfield himself appears to be active on Twitter thanking well-wishers.
A Syracuse University spokesperson confirmed Howard had been suspended indefinitely, adding "We do not tolerate any act of violence and the safety of our campus and community is a top priority."
WTVH reports Howard was briefly on the Syracuse University football squad on a scholarship before he and the team parted ways.
