NEW YORK (CBS) Michelle Obama has the access to wear any high-fashion piece she wants, but the first lady recently ditched the designer label and opted for a more affordable look while making her New York City TV rounds.

Mrs. Obama chose to wear a navy and white polka-dot frock from H&M, which currently retails at $34.95, when she made appearances on the "Today" show and "Live with Regis & Kelly" Tuesday.

She paired the 3/4-sleeved dress with a wide orange belt and mustard yellow kitten pumps.

The original version of the dress, part of the Swedish retail giant's current collection, is sleeveless and is also available in pink.

Her personal style last gained attention when she chose to wear a red Alexander McQueen gown for the China State Dinner last February.

When Matt Lauer asked her how she felt about her style icon status, she said, "I take it as a compliment. It's not something I focus on,"

"Everybody's got to get dressed in the morning and put on something. I hope people find it nice, but it's not something I focus on."
