Michael Morrone, N.J. man, charged with murder for girlfriend Christine McGhee's dragging death
(CBS/AP) READING, Pa. - Michael Morrone, a Marlton, N.J. man already serving a prison sentence for dragging his girlfriend Christine McGhee behind his pickup three years ago, has been charged with murder after McGhee recently died of her injuries.
Morrone, 24, was charged Tuesday with third-degree murder for the March 18 death of McGhee. She was severely injured when she was dragged across a Kutztown University parking lot in December 2008. The couple had been arguing early on the morning of December 5, before Morrone drove off with McGhee dangling from the driver's-side window of his truck.
McGhee was left unable to speak or move after the incident, according to records. She was released from the hospital in December 2009 and cared for by her parents until her death this year. State Police in Reading say McGhee died of brain
injuries sustained in the dragging.
Morrone was convicted two years ago of aggravated assault and related charges. He is currently serving at least five years in prison. No date had been set for his first court appearance on the murder charge.
