Utah woman accused of plotting hit on ex-husband, his new wife

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah woman was arrested Tuesday after being accused of hiring someone to arrange the murder her ex-husband and his new wife, reports CBS affiliate KUTV.

Lt. Brian Lohrke of the Unified Police said in a press release that 69-year-old Linda Gillman was planning on having her ex-husband and his new wife killed in either a “propped accident” or a break-in gone wrong.

The station reports that police said she planned to use $25,000 from a life insurance policy to pay for the murders.

The man who was allegedly paid by Gillman to arrange the hit contacted the intended victim Dec. 19 to warn him about the plot and told police, reports the Salt Lake Tribune. He said Gillman had offered him $5,000 to hire a killer “and make it look like an accident or natural death,” the paper reports. She allegedly offered him a diamond ring and part of the insurance payout.

Gillman was arrested and spoke with detectives, but reportedly denies knowing anything about the murder-for-hire plot.

She now faces two counts of criminal solicitation.
