Life Sentence For Woman Who Killed 2 Children
THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A woman convicted of fatally stabbing her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son with several kitchen knives will be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
A jury in Thibodaux on Saturday rejected the death penalty for 42-year-old Amy Hebert, who was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the August 2007 killings.
Prosecutors argued that Hebert stabbed the children to get back at her ex-husband, Chad Hebert, because of an affair he had with another woman whom he subsequently married.
The jury rejected Hebert's not guilty by reason of insanity plea. Prosecutors sought the death sentence.
