Leonardo DiCaprio on his emotional Golden Globe speech

The Golden Globes are one of the biggest awards ceremonies in America, and only a few actors every year are lucky enough to win one, and to have their talents recognized. One actor whose work was honored was Leonardo DiCaprio, who won for best actor in a musical or comedy, for his stunning performance in "The Wolf Of Wall Street."

During his acceptance speech, the actor got a bit emotional while talking about the film and thanking those who made it possible.

ET's Nancy O'Dell caught up with DiCaprio backstage, after winning the prestigious award, and asked him about his emotional speech.

"This movie was an eight-year process to put up on screen," said DiCaprio. "And I got my favorite director in the world, one of my favorite artists of all time, to direct it."

The film was helmed by legendary director Martin Scorsese, who has worked with DiCaprio several times before on "Gangs Of New York," "The Aviator," "The Departed" and "Shutter Island."

"I'm an incredibly fortunate person," DiCaprio added. "And I'm so lucky to be able to do movies with him. Especially films like this. That kind of push the boundaries and take chances. Films that ultimately say something about the darker nature of our culture. And those are hard to do. So, yeah, I suppose I did get a little emotional.

This is DiCaprio's tenth time being nominated for the award, but only his second time winning it. In 2005 he walked away with the Golden Globe for his lead role in "The Aviator."

He had been nominated three times for Oscars, but has yet to win. However, this year may change his luck as the Golden Globes are usually good indicators of which stars and films will walk home with Academy Awards.
