Lenovo CEO gives his $3 million bonus to lower-paid workers
(CBS News) Lenovo chief executive officer Yang Yuanqing is showing appreciation to his employees by giving them his bonus.
Yang gave away his $3 million bonus to about 10,000 of Lenovo's lower-paid workers, many in manufacturing, according to a report by China.org. Divvied up, the cash amounts to about 2,000 yuan ($317 USD).
The average monthly salary of Lenovo workers is unknown, but an typical factory worker in China can make between 1,500 to 2,200 yuan at a manufacturing plant like Foxconn, for comparison.
In May, Lenovo reported a record $29.6 billion in sales, making it the world's second largest PC vendor.
According to China.org, Yang decided to distribute the funds because he credits the "strength of the company's business performance to workers on the production line." Yang's total earnings last year amounted to $14 million, reported CNN.
