Kevin McCarron, Mass. man, critically injured in brutal beating during visit to New York City
(CBS) NEW YORK - A man visiting New York from Massachusetts was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday afternoon after being severely beaten in a fight outside of a pizza shop in the trendy neighborhood of Greenwich Village, CBS New York reports.
Kevin McCarron, 24, of Andover, Mass., was out with a group of eight others early Sunday around 5 a.m. when he bumped into some young men from Brooklyn and got into a quarrel outside Artichoke Pizza.
Police say the bump in the street led to a brutal beating with a baseball bat and other weapons. According to police, there were words, followed by fists and then at least two New Yorkers ran to a car and grabbed a bat and a tire iron, CBS New York reports.
A passerby recorded a video of the attack that showed McCarron on the street being severely beaten.
The NYPD arrested two men - Hatem Farsakh, 24, and Sherif Rizk, 22, both of Brooklyn. They were charged with attempted murder, assault and gang assault, the station says.
Authorities are still working to arrest others who joined in on the attack..
McCarron suffered a fractured skull and serious internal injuries. His brother, Patrick, was also hurt in the attack but suffered less serious injuries.
