Kelly Elementary School: Shots Fired at Carlsbad, Calif. School, at Least Two Injured
CARLSBAD, Calif. (CBS/KFMB) A suspect was in custody after at least five shots were fired on the campus of Kelly Elementary School in Carlsbad, California Friday, injuring at least two people.
The gunshots were reported at 12:12 p.m. A man in his 30s, dressed in dark clothing, walked on campus carrying a .357 Magnum, an official said.
At least five shots were reportedly fired before the suspect was tackled and taken into custody. It was unclear if a second suspect was being sought, reports CBS affiliate KFMB.
Two people were transported via Mercy Air to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. It was unclear if they were children.
The school, located approximately 35 miles north of San Diego, was placed on lockdown until further notice.
Crews were also investigating a propane tank discovered near the suspect's vehicle.
