Kate Upton: It was "inconvenient" to be pretty growing up
Though plenty of women would kill for Kate Upton's good looks, it turns out the 22-year-old supermodel found her beauty growing up "kind of inconvenient."
Kate covers Elle U.K.'s September issue showing off Fall fashion in a turtleneck and a coat, and recalls growing up in a farm in Florida where her beauty didn't exactly get her ahead.
"Living on a farm, beauty doesn't get you anywhere. Because I was pretty didn't mean I could convince my sister to do my chores," she explains to the magazine (via Celebitchy). "It was kind of inconvenient to be pretty, growing up."
Nevertheless, Kate was happy when her curves came in.
"When I first started modelling, I was a normal catalog model. Then, I became a woman, and I was really excited about becoming a woman. Because I'm from Florida, it's all about being in bathing suits," she says. "It's a different view of beauty there. You are ugly if you don't have a curvy body. And I didn't have one, and then I got one, and thought, 'Yessss!'"
Though not everyone in the modeling world agreed.
"And then people say: 'Oh, wow, you're healthy.' And you're like, 'Wait -- what? I've been begging for this body my whole life!'" she recalls. "Agents have put me under pressure to lose weight in the past. I would go on set and clients loved me. And then I would go into an agency and feel like crap about myself. They would say: 'Just lose five more [pounds]!' But I couldn't give a crap. I still don't."
... Clearly, that strategy has paid off.
