Kamiyah Mobley case: Woman accused of kidnapping baby in 1998 enters plea
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The woman accused of kidnapping a baby from a Jacksonville hospital in 1998 and raising the girl as her own appeared in a Florida court Thursday, reports CBS affiliate WJAX.
Gloria Williams pleaded not guilty in the kidnapping of Kamiyah Mobley, whom she raised as her daughter in South Carolina. Williams is being held without bond.
Mobley was only eight hours old when she was taken from her young mother by a woman posing as a nurse at University Medical Center. A massive search ensued, with helicopters circling the hospital and the city on high alert.
An investigation and about 2,500 tips produced nothing until DNA evidence proved Mobley’s lineage. Investigators made the discovery last month after following up on a tip that a teen was living in South Carolina with the same birth date as the abducted infant.
Mobley, now 18, has since been re-united with her birth parents.
