It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...a robot that flies like a bird?

(CBS) - It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... Alfred Hitchcock's worse nightmare: a robotic bird!

According to this YouTube video description, scientist Markus Fischer and his team call it the SmartBird. It's a lightweight robot that looks like a oversized seagull and flies the same way birds do: by flapping its wings.

The group demoed the flying marvel this year at the TEDGlobal conference.
