Heartbroken Prison Guard Kim Wolfe Goes on Murderous Rampage, Say Police
NEW YORK (CBS/WCBS/AP) A broken heart may have led a 19-year veteran prison guard to go on a murderous rampage, leaving her uncle and lesbian lover dead and her grandfather wounded, according to Nassau County Police.
Police say that 43-year-old Kim Wolfe was going through a rough break-up with her girlfriend, Stacie Williams, when she asked the woman to meet with her while Williams was on break from her nursing job at Nassau University Medical Center sometime after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
When they met, Wolfe then allegedly shot Williams four times in the chest before fleeing to her grandfather's house in nearby Hempstead, N.Y., on Long Island. She then got into a heated argument with her grandfather, reportedly about changing certain will and insurance documents. Witnesses told CBS affiliate WCBS that she appeared suicidal.
When Wolfe's uncle, Michael Williams, no relation to the first victim, tried to intervene, he was fatally shot in the chest, police said. Marshall Williams, the grandfather, was then shot in the leg, authorities said.
Wolfe then allegedly took her niece hostage and started driving toward Atlantic City, N.J. Wolfe made several phone calls back to the Hempstead home during the trip and a responding officer at the scene of the shooting was able to negotiate with her to return to Long Island and release her niece.
She was arrested at about 5:45 a.m. Her niece was released unharmed.
Wolfe was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in connection with the shooting rampage. It was not immediately clear whether she had a lawyer; specific charges were to be announced at the arraignment.
