Watch: Shark jumps out of water chasing seal off Cape Cod

BOSTON - There have been plenty of shark sightings off the Massachusetts coast this summer, but none quite like this.

CBS Boston reports that Dr. Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries was working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy off Monomoy, Cape Cod Monday when a great white shark jumped out of the water trying to grab a seal.

It appears the seal escaped.

Skomal, the state's shark expert, captured it all on video.

He said they tagged two more great whites in that area Monday.

Both were about twelve feet long.

Seven sharks have now been tagged this summer.

Last week, officials said two Cape Cod beaches closed after visitors spotted a great white shark biting a seal and spitting it back out onto the beach.

Seals are a primary food source for great white sharks, which have been spotted in the Cape in increasing numbers over the years.
