Garfunkel and Oates: We sing dirty songs
(CBS) "We sing kind of dirty songs, basically, and we go around the world and play them," says Kate Micucci of the comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates. (She's Oates, the brunette.)
"We have a YouTube channel and we play songs on my couch," adds Riki Lindhome. (She's Garfunkel, the blonde.)
Dirty songs. A hard niche in the music world. Do those songs too dirtily and you're creepy. Do them with cheery melodies and smiles on your faces, you're Garfunkel and Oates. It helps that the tunes are really funny.
The pair got together to write songs - the first two they wrote are "F--k You" and "Only You" - and soon they began performing live in Los Angeles. Three years later, they've played shows across the country and have a deal for a pilot and a web series with HBO.
"It's a pilot and six webisodes," says Lindhome. "And so we're doing the webisodes now and hopefully we'll be in production on the pilot soon."
"It's a long process," says Micucci.
In addition to writing and performing dirty songs, Lindhome and Micucci have appeared regularly in movies and on television. Micucci was featured on "Scrubs" and co-starred in the movie "When in Rome" and Lindhome appears in "Million Dollar Baby" and the remake of "The Last House on the Left."
Garfunkel and Oates are performing Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13, in New York at Gotham Comedy Club. The duo's most recent album, "All Over Your Face," is available on iTunes. Watch their videos here.
