For Niners fans, Super Bowl tickets are scarce and expensive
For San Francisco 49ers fans who actually want to go to the Big Game in New Orleans on Feb. 3, tickets will be hard to come by and very expensive.
CBS Station KPIX San Francisco reports that the team had already given away its tickets to season ticketholders and don't have any to sell to the general public. So if a Niners fan really wants to go to the game, going online is probably the only (and inevitably expensive) route for tickets. The lowest-priced available ticket for the Super Bowl is about $2,000 online.
Then there are those Super Bowl travel packages such as the ones offered by Prime Sport, which is partnering with the team. Already the deluxe land/air package that includes three nights at a hotel and a ticket is already sold out. One package that includes a game ticket and a pre-game tailgate will run you from $2,500 to $2,900; another package that offers a ticket and a pre-game VIP party with host Joe Theismann will cost between $2,800 and $3,100.
Even finding a hotel room in New Orleans won't be easy as well: A representative from The Royal Senesta on Bourbon Street told KPIX every hotel in the city is sold out. "We have everything booked up in the city," she said and recommended looking for a room in Alabama or Mississippi.
Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines has added two nonstop flights from San Francisco to New Orleans. "We're quick to jump on when these big events are taking place in some of our large markets that we serve," said airlines spokeswoman Michelle Agnew.
Of course, there is always the less expensive option to watching the game. "I'd rather watch it at home," said one person, while another added: "Because you can get a better picture."
