"Farewell to Arms" fair sees Colo. gun company give away 30-round magazines on eve of stricter laws

(CBS) GLENDALE, Colo. - A Colorado gun company gave away hundreds of 20- and 30-round magazines for free over the weekend, just before tougher gun laws took effect on Monday, CBS Denver reported.

Magpul Industries took part in the "Farewell to Arms" festival in a Glendale park; the first 1,500 attendees 18 years and older got a free gun magazine, according to CBS Denver.

Magazines holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition are illegal a new law that took effect yesterday.

Thousands attended the event was hosted by the group Free Colorado, which promotes for the rights of gun owners. The group said the larger magazines will be grandfathered in under the new law.

According to CBS Denver, after the first 1,500 magazines were given away people could buy up to five magazines for $10 each.

"These magazines are largely used for target practice and hunting and for self-defense," Free Colorado spokeswoman Kelly Maher said. "For the government to step in and restrict the rights and freedoms of people it's onerous, it's ridiculous."

CBS Denver reports that Magpul Industries will be taking the business out of Colorado.
