Elf on the Shelf box causes evacuation, bomb squad robot deployment
BALTIMORE -- State Police say a suspicious box containing the well-known holiday toy, Elf on the Shelf, prompted authorities to evacuate a local convenience store, CBS Baltimore reports.
A customer notified authorities of the box, which was placed on a trash can at the convenience store Royal Farms around 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Upon their arrival, authorities deployed a bomb squad robot to examine the package.
The store and parking lot were evacuated for a brief amount of time. Traffic was also affected while the robot was assessing the scene.
Authorities say the box contained only empty packaging materials.
No injuries were reported.
