(CBS News) Rocker Duff McKagan received an honorary diploma last week, from the high school he dropped out of decades before.

"Finally got my High School diploma today," the former Guns N' Roses bassist tweeted on June 19, joking that he did the "not-so-popular 48year plan."

McKagan, 48, left Seattle's Roosevelt High School in the 10th grade, according to SFGate.com, and went on to earn his GED. He was awarded the honorary degree after speaking to the class of 2012 at the school's graduation ceremony, the report says.

Fellow rocker Joe Perry also took to Twitter to congratulate McKean on getting his degree.

The Aerosmith guitarist wrote, "Congratulations to @DuffMcKagan from me and [wife] @BilliePerry on your long awaited Diploma."
