Body found floating in pond in New York's Central Park
NEW YORK -- A grim discovery was made in a body of water in Central Park over the weekend, CBS New York reports.
Police say three passerby were walking their dog on Sunday morning around Conservancy Pond near Fifth Avenue and 74th Street when they saw a body in the water, which appeared unresponsive. They immediately notified authorities.
Upon their arrival, police pronounced the person dead at the scene. A portion of the park was roped off as police sought to determine what happened.
Investigators say the victim was an African-American man believed to be in his 20s or 30s. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
Last month, two corpses were found within a two-day period in separate bodies of water in Central Park. In both cases, no evidence of criminality was found.
The investigation into the latest case is ongoing as the medical examiner works to determine the victim's cause of death.
