Cops: Fmr. classmate admitted killing Colo. teen
BRIGHTON, Colo. -- Homicide detectives testifying in a Colorado courtroom Friday said a murder suspect admitted to killing a 19-year-old woman, placing her body in a duffel bag and disposing of it in a dumpster outside his apartment, reports CBS Denver.
A judge found probable cause for counts including first-degree murder, sexual exploitation of a minor and tampering with evidence against 24-year-old Christopher Waide, reports KUSA. He's accused of killing 19-year-old Lea Porter, who was last seen in June while visiting Westminster, where Waide lives outside Denver, reports the Pueblo Chieftan.
Waide was arrested June 12 on first-degree murder and sex assault charges after he allegedly admitted to Porter's brother and boyfriend that he killed her, reports CBS Denver.
Despite five weeks of searching a landfill, Porter's body hasn't been found. Investigators say they've recovered personal items of the teen's that Waide allegedly said he had dumped in different garbage bins in his apartment complex, CBS Denver reports.
Testifying during Friday's court hearing, investigators said Waide told them Porter had been staying at his apartment but the two began arguing over drugs. He allegedly said Porter attacked him with a knife and that he strangled her in self-defense, but prosecutors discounted the story, reports CBS Denver.
Investigators have said Waide and Porter attended the same high school in Fremont County and had reconnected on Facebook before she went missing, reports CBS Denver.
