Cops: 2 officers dragged by moving car in Boston
BOSTON -- Two police officers have been injured by a driver who dragged them with his car during a traffic stop in Boston, officials say.
Prosecutors say 45-year-old Bryant Gilbert is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in connection with the Sunday night incident. He's facing multiple charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for a police officer, and driving to endanger, reports CBS Boston.
Police say the officers pulled over a car reportedly driving about 70 miles per hour in Mattapan at about 7 p.m.
The officers reached in both sides of the vehicle after the driver tried to get out of the car. Police say the driver put the car in gear and the officers were dragged for a "significant distance" before the car crashed.
"He took off with the two officers hanging out from the car," Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Dennis White told reporters Sunday night, the station reports.
The car then hit a parked SUV, and the impact reportedly pushed the parked vehicle over the sidewalk and into a tree. One of the officers hit his foot on a parked car and the other hurt his back and shoulder, reports the station.
They were taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital with minor injuries and released.
Police say they found a large amount of money and several small bags of substance believed to be marijuana on Gilbert when he was captured, CBS Boston reported.
