Christy Gets Canned

Three contestants and two "evil stepsisters" are still in the running for the million dollar prize on "Survivor: The Amazon."

On Thursday night, the evil stepsisters won out. Rob, Butch, Heidi, Jenna, and Matt remain in the game, while Christy went to sit on the jury.

Christy Smith, the 24-year-old adventure guide for the deaf from Basalt, Colo., became the 11th person voted out of the tribe, on Survivor: The Amazon. She joined Julie Chen on The Early Show to talk about the experience.

So what went wrong, Julie wanted to know.

"I don't know," Christy replied. "I had a lot of power, I thought, and I didn't. And my ego just went a little bit bigger at the wrong time."

Rob had come to her and asked her to join the alliance. Why didn't she give him a straight answer? In fact, why didn't she give him an answer at all?

"Well, because of that whole conflict that I have with Rob and Jenna and just going back and forth," she explained. "And I'm like true. Rob is not the one person to be trusted. He is a snake. He went against Alex. So I was like, I wasn't sure."

"Is it safe for me to say that you were not sneaky enough, and that you played the game openly and honestly, and that's why you're sitting here?" Julie asked.

"Yeah. I was too honest. I should have been a little more tricky. But that's not my personality. So my day came and I got voted out."

In the end, Heidi came to her and acted as if she were her best friend, Chen noted. What did Christy think then?

"I don't trust them," Christy said. "I didn't like the fact that they ignored me for so many days, and then they wanted to get together with me just in that time. And I was like "No, no, no.'"

So why did she sign up for "Survivor?" Was it to try and win the million dollars? She didn't seem to really be playing the game – she was being nice. And hadn't she learned from seasons past that nice doesn't win the game all the time?

"My main goal was to provide deaf awareness," she replied. "And I feel I did that. I feel that I was able to show the struggle that a deaf person lives through different challenges.

Is she still bitter? Julie asked. "Because you were bitter last night."

"Yeah, I was hurt," Christy admitted. "I was. I didn't like the fact that I was surprised I got voted out.

A viewer called in wanting to know why Christy was more angry at the girls, when it seemed that the men, especially Rob, betrayed her?

She said there was a lot of background stuff behind the scenes.

Another viewer wanted to know, if she had to spend an extra week with one tribe member alone, whom would she choose?

"If I could stay with one tribe member I would stay with Janet. I didn't get the opportunity to get to know her," she said. "Janet (a homemaker from Manchester) was just an older lady and she just had a lot of energy."

Yet another viewer, this one with a 5-year-old deaf daughter, called in. She wanted to let Christy know that "she is a total inspiration for deaf people. Seeing Christy on "Survivor" really proved that a deaf person has it in them to actually push on and to achieve her goals."

And even though she didn't win the million dollars, Christy said, she made a difference in people's lives.
