Bill Raftery joined CBS Sports in 1983 as an analyst for the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament. He also works as a CBS Radio analyst during the tournament.
He has worked the NBA playoffs for the Network and, in 1990, served as studio analyst for The Basketball Show, CBS Sports' 30-minute NBA playoffs pre-game show.
Raftery began his broadcasting career in 1978 as co-host of ESPN's college basketball studio program. In addition to his CBS duties, he works regular season college basketball games as analyst for ESPN, and the Monday Night Game of the Week for Big East Productions. He also calls New Jersey Nets games for Fox Sports Net.
Raftery compiled a 156-140 record in 11 seasons as head coach at Seton Hall (1970-1982). He also coached at Fairleigh Dickinson for five years. Raftery gained three National Invitational Tournament berths and four ECAC NCAA tournament berths while coaching at the collegiate level. He was named Coach of the Year in 1979 by the New Jersey Basketball Writers Association.
Born April 19, 1943, in Orange, New Jersey, Raftery graduated from LaSalle College with a BA in history and received his Masters from Seton Hall University. He now lives in Floram Park, N.J., with wife Joan and he has four children. His daughter Kelli works as a broadcast representative for CBS Sports
