From 1978 to 1985, served as president of Blake & Dickinson, Inc., a marketing research firm.
Since 1985, served as president of the American Research Group, Inc.
In 1993, he and John Deardourff began Bennett/Deardourff Opinion Research, a polling organization based in McLean, Virginia.
Directed the New Hampshire Poll, a quarterly survey of New Hampshire residents that focuses on political, social, and economics issues in the state, since 1976.
Conducted political research in over 400 local, state, congressional, and national races since 1978.
In 1980 he was the pollster for the Republican primary campaign of presidential candidate John Anderson.
