Ben Carson: "I reassess the future of my campaign every day"
Ben Carson said Friday that he evaluates his presidential campaign on a daily basis.
"I reassess the future of the campaign every day," he said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" when asked if he would reassess if he doesn't perform well in South Carolina GOP primary on Feb. 20.
Recognizing that South Carolina will be key, Carson skipped his primary night event in New Hampshire on Tuesday and instead traveled to the first-in-the-South primary state to get a head-start on campaigning.
"I understand the people here. I think they understand me and I believe we're going to do extraordinarily well here," Carson said Friday. "It's a matter of really getting out in front of enough audiences, so that they get a chance to see me and hear me as opposed to the way they have been characterized by many in the media."
"We're going to do just fine and I think South Carolina will be the turning point," he added.
In the interview, Carson again addressed the false rumor that Sen. Ted Cruz's campaign spread about him on the night of last week's Iowa caucuses implying that he was dropping out of the race. Carson said the Cruz campaign's conduct was "just despicable."
"I'm willing to forgive Ted Cruz. He said that he didn't know that that was going on," Carson said.
Carson had an eighth-place finish in New Hampshire, receiving fewer votes than Carly Fiorina and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, both of whom dropped out this week.
