Atlanta bishop arrested for allegedly trying to bring gun on plane, report says
(CBS) ATLANTA - An Atlanta bishop was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attempting to bring a gun on board an airplane, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports.
Bishop William Henry Murphy III was reportedly stopped by security at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport when they discovered, through an X-ray screening, that he was carrying a 9 mm handgun and 10 rounds of ammunition in his carry-on luggage.
According to a police warrant obtained by the paper, Murphy has a license to carry permit but that does not allow him to legally carry the weapon on board an airplane.
Murphy had just been consecrated from pastor to bishop of The dReam Center Church on Monday, the church's Facebook page says.
Murphy is charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in an unauthorized area, the paper reports. His bond was reportedly set at $2,500 on Thursday.
