All-Star Burnitz Breaks Bone
All-Star outfielder Jeromy Burnitz broke a bone in his right hand during the Brewers' game against Kansas City on Saturday night.
Burnitz was hit in the fourth inning by a pitch from the Royals' Jose Rosado. He stayed in the game but was replaced by Geoff Jenkins in the top of the sixth inning after Milwaukee took a 9-1 lead.
X-rays revealed a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his hand, the Brewers said. Burnitz's hand was placed in a splint and will be reevaluated on Sunday.
Burnitz started for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star game and hit an RBI double. He also finished second to Ken Griffey Jr. in the home run-hitting contest.
He was 0-for-2 with a strikeout Saturday. Burnitz has 26 home runs and 73 RBIs this season while hitting .275.
