ABC Names 3 'Nightline' Anchors
ABC News said Monday it will replace Ted Koppel on "Nightline" with the three-anchor team of Martin Bashir, Cynthia McFadden and Terry Moran and heavily revamp the show's format.
Koppel, the late-night news show's only anchor since it began in 1980, leaves ABC News after his final broadcast Nov. 22.
With the change, the Washington-based "Nightline" will be produced out of both Washington and New York (from the Times Square studio also used by "Good Morning America"). McFadden and Bashir will be based in New York, while Moran will stay in Washington.
The live show will also address multiple topics, as was hinted during test runs over the summer. During Koppel's reign, "Nightline" concentrated on a single topic each night.
McFadden has worked at ABC News for 12 years, concentrating on "Primetime Live." Moran has been the network's chief White House correspondent since 1999, and anchors the Sunday edition of "World News Tonight." Bashir, a British journalist best-known for his news making interview with Michael Jackson, has been with ABC for a year.
The new anchor team takes over on Nov. 28.
