4 people stabbed at University of California, Merced campus
MERCED, Calif. -- An assailant stabbed four people as students headed to class at the University of California, Merced, before police shot and killed him, reports CBS San Francisco.
According to tweets from the Northern California school, the stabbing was reported at the Classrooms and Office Building on campus just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The university said on its verified Twitter account Wednesday that two students, one staff member and a vendor were wounded but were expected to recover.
The university's website said the school was on lockdown and Wednesday classes were cancelled.
According to CBS San Francisco, the school with more than 6,600 students is about 120 miles south of Sacramento in the San Joaquin Valley. The campus opened a decade ago and is the newest college in the University of California system, the station reported.
