    STS-135 LAUNCH WINDOWS

    Updated: 07/07/11

Editor's note: The launch window for STS-135 is 10 minutes long, centered on the moment when Earth's rotation carries the launch pad into the plane of the space station's orbit. To optimize ascent performance, NASA targets the "in-plane" time. All times in Eastern.

    STS-135 MISSION PRIORITIES

As with every space shuttle flight, NASA has established a set of mission priorities and defined what is required for minimum and full mission success. Here is the list for STS-135 (source: NASA):

    Category 1:

    • Dock Shuttle Flight ULF7 to PMA-2 & perform mandatory crew safety briefing.
    • Install MPLM on Node-2 nadir port & perform vestibule outfitting / ingress.
    • Transfer critical items per Flight ULF7 Transfer Priority List (TPL)
    • Return MPLM to payload bay.
    Category 2:
    • Transfer remaining resupply cargo, plus transfer return items to meet min MPLM return VLA mass requirement of 21,000 per TPL
    • Remove failed ETCS Pump Module (PM) from ESP2 & install on LMC in PLB [EVA]
    • Transfer Robotics Refueling Mission (RRM) payload from LMC to SPDM EOTP [EVA]
    • Deploy MISSE-8 Optical Reflector Materials Experiment – III Ram/Wake
    Category 3:
    • Perform ISS daily payload status checks as required
    • Transfer O2 from orbiter to ISS A/L HPGTs if required
    • Transfer N2 from orbiter to ISS A/L HPGTs if required
    • Perform EVA get-aheads deemed to fit (none identified)
    • Perform daily middeck payloads activities
    • Transfer remaining MPLM return cargo items per TPL
    • Perform ISS payload research operations
    • Deploy Pico-Satellite Solar Cell (PSSC) spacecraft post-undock
    • Transfer water from Orbiter to ISS per TPL

    STS-135 COUNTDOWN SUMMARY TIMELINE

    Editor's Note: Updated 06/13/11

The launch window is roughly 10 minutes long. To maximize ascent performance, NASA targets the middle of the window. A final hold in the countdown at the T-minus nine-minute mark will be extended as required to hit the desired launch time.
