Jane Clayson reports.

(CBS) Career coach Judy Rosemarin, president of Sense-Able Strategies, showed The Early Show how to network effectively as part of the Get A Job series.

Rosemarin was joined by Robin Sojcher and Nancy Church, two friends she coached using a technique called "Six Levels of Networking".

You may be surprised, but you know more people who can help you get a job than you think, Rosemarin says. According to her technique, Six Levels of Networking, she advises writing down the names of about 250 people that come to mind in the following six categories:

GET A JOB DAILY JOURNAL

  • TAKE CHARGE
  • Level One: People who can recognize your voice on the telephone and need no reminder.

Level Two: Individuals who may need your name and voice to remember you.

Level Three: People who need a small reminder of who you are, where you work or who you know.

Level Four: Folks you haven't heard from or seen for many years and who need a big reminder of who you are.

Level Five: People whose names you were given from your previous contacts from level one to four.

Level Six: Individuals whose names have been in the news and those you want to contact.

Rosemarin advises writing down 10 to 15 names per category. Leave enough room for the person's title, phone number and notes. The goal is to add six new people per week to the list.

There are also a number of books you may read to help you in your job search. The Early Show has compiled a list of recommended books to make it easier.

Use The Early Show's Get A Job Daily Journal to help you keep organized and track your progress.

Through her company Sense Able Strategies, Rosemarin has been advising senior managers and leaders for 18 years.

Her clients include organizations such as Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., Hearst Magazines, Prudential Investments and Lucent Technologies.

She is also a New York Post columnist and a faculty member at New York University. She teaches job search techniques and executive coaching.
